Why I Recommend Tailwind for Your Pinterest Marketing Strategy

Since starting my business, Pinterest has become a huge asset to my marketing strategy, bringing in almost the majority of my traffic to my blog and my Etsy shop.

Naturally, with seeing such great results, I’ve poured a lot of my attention into making sure it’s running the best way possible.

As my brand has grown, so has my demand for marketing, which, to be honest with you, can be so exhausting if you’re doing it manually.

I was one of those people who swore against using automotive tools because “machines can’t do a better job than humans can”, and quite honestly I was trying to save a buck or two.

However, after finally giving Tailwind a shot, I was blown away with the results! It’s been a huge game changer.

I realize now that I can’t do this whole marketing thing alone.

In this post, I’m going to be walking you through the key features that you’ll find yourself asking how you’ve lived without for so long, and overall why I love Tailwind for my Pinterest marketing strategy.

What is Tailwind?

Tailwind is an amazing program that helps you save time by scheduling to your Pinterest and Instagram account, post at the most optimal times for engagement, and the ability to track your progress with their analytics.

It helps to automate your Pinterest marketing strategy and grow your account in record speed.

What even better is that Tailwind is also an official Pinterest marketing developer partner, so you can be sure your account is safe with Tailwind!

Tailwind Features

To say that Tailwind is just a Pinterest scheduling app wouldn’t be doing it any justice

Tailwind includes a number of innovative features to help you discover and publish content on Pinterest and Instagram while analyzing their results so they can better grow.

Dashboard Overview

The Dashboard Overview section shows a weekly summary with Pin activity. You’ll be able to see helpful information such as how many repins you’ve received compared to previous weeks.

Each time you login into Tailwind account you’ll see your dashboard overview, but you can also get back to this anytime by accessing “Weekly Summary” in the left-hand side menu.

Included in your dashboard overview is:

The total number of repins you’ve had for the week, comparing it to previous weeks

  • The total number of your domain pins you’ve pinned that week
  • How many new followers you’ve gained compared to previous weeks
  • Information on your account setup
  • The option for referrals
  • Information on your most repined boards

Having all of this information available to you helps to figure out what exactly is working for your Pinterest strategy and what isn’t by showing your growth.

Maybe you tried something new this week and your repins have skyrocketed, then you know that this is something you should implement on a regular basis.

Similar to Pinterest Group Boards is posting to Tailwind Tribes.

How this works is you join different tribes that are specific to you and your niche or a specific topic that you blog about. In this tribe are thousands of members you will send and repin your content to their own personal boards, which gets your Pins to a vast amount of Pinterest users who are your target audience.

While Tailwind is a paid service (and my favorite Pinterest scheduler), the tribes are a free feature that you can use even if you don’t have a paid subscription (with some limitations).

But give Tailwind Tribes a try! They are free to use as well, but I do recommend to upgrade if you have over 50-100 pins of your own by now (which you should!).

The Tribes page is broken down into the following sections:

  • Your tribes
  • Find a Tribe
  • Insights (Beta)
  • Create a Tribe

On the upper right-hand side, you’ll notice two icons.

Hover your mouse over them and you’ll see information related to how many tribes you’re a member of (you can join up to 5 without upgrading) and your total number of monthly submissions – pins to tribes you’re a member of (your also limited to 30 submissions a month).

Your tribes (default)

Your tribes provide access to the Tribes you’re currently a member of.

You can select each Tribe via a drop-down menu on the left-hand side of the screen where you’ll see info related to the Tribe and an overview which shows the number of re-shares repins and your reshares and repins.

In the main screen, you’ll see content that has been shared within the group, which you can filter by new, your (content) and content you’ve already shared.

Within this section you can also share content easily, add your own content or create a new tribe of your own.

Find a Tribe

In order to find tribes that are in your niche and that will benefit you and your business, you can search for them, preview these tribes, and request to join under this tab.

You can either search a keyword or category, or you can look through popular Tribe tags and categories provided for you to give you an idea of what you’re looking for.

Once you complete the search, you’ll be able to look through the multiple tribes in the specific category you selected and decide whether or not you want to request to join or not.

Get insights on your Tribe activity broken down by Tribe and best-performing pins within each Tribe.

You’ll be able to see the number of pins you’ve submitted and the re-shared received.

Create a Tribe

There are a lot of benefits to creating your own tribe!

For one, it can be a great way to market your own business on your own terms.

But also, you may find that there aren’t any tribes out there that are exactly how you want them to be. By creating your own tribe, you get to decide what types of pins you want posted there, the rules of engagement, and the specific topic you want it to focus on.

If you want to create your own tribe select “Create a New Tribe” pick a name, select a category to choose whether you want the Tribe to be public, request to join or secret.

Add a Tribe description and some rules and select “Create Tribe”.

To get people to join your tribe, invite people who you think will be interested!

This is where all of the magic happens when it comes to scheduling out your viral posts!

Publisher includes a lot of information and features so you’ll most likely be spending most of your time here.

The drafts page is a holding page for pins before you schedule them.

If you don’t have any drafts Tailwind will provide a selection of content from around the visual web related to your niche for you to add.

On the right-hand side, you’ll see your schedule which you can edit and add to. We’ll get more into the basics of the schedule next.

Schedule Pins

The first section shows you details of each individual pin that you have scheduled in turn.

You’ll see a thumbnail of the pin, which boards you currently have it scheduled to pin to, the time it will be pinned, pin description and radio buttons giving you the option to pin to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Again, on the right-hand side, you’ll see your schedule at a glance again which you can add new pins to and add or remove time slots.

The visual schedule is my absolute favorite part about Tailwind!

I’m a visual person, so seeing all of those pins together just gets me excited. It also helps because I can click and move around pins as I see fit so I don’t have any clashing going on.

If you don’t go in and manually change your pins around, there is this amazing option to shuffle your pins located on top of your schedule. With one click Tailwind will shuffle your pins in a random order.

A new feature Tailwind has introduced is SmartLoop.

The idea behind this feature is to set up your pins on the SmartLoop and let Tailwind do all the hard work for you.

It automatically loops your pins on a schedule that you decide.

This prevents you from having to remember to go back and manually repin your own pins. It’s also great for looping pins through group boards on a schedule so you can prevent from over-pinning.

Published pins

The Publisher shows all of your recent pin activity which you can filter by category, board, pins from your websites and date range.

The best part about this tab is that you can filter your results to show the highest repinned content so you can go back and reschedule it or add it to your Tribes or SmartLoop.

This completely sets your Pinterest account up for success because you can target content that people are attracted to and use it as an asset.

Your Schedule

This is where you set your schedule of the number of pins you want to be scheduled in a day and at the specific times.

Tailwind does a great job at analyzing your Pinterest account and after a few days, it will suggest to you the times where you get the highest engagement so you can schedule pins to go out when people are actively on Pinterest.

You’ll be able to decide how many pins you want to schedule in one day depending on your business. Some businesses can get millions of views a month with only pinning a few times a day, while others have to pin hundreds of times a day to get noticed.

The good this about Tailwind is you set it once and it does it for you.

Just know that if you set your pins to go out every second of the day, it’s still going to require some work from you to fill those slots in.

Board Lists

Let me ask you this.

Has there ever been a moment where you come across a pin that you think would relevantly fit in two or three of your boards?

Board lists are a way for you to group a number of boards together which can easily be selected within one click in Tailwind.

This saves you time from scrolling through your entire board lists (if you’re anything like me then you have a lot of boards) to find boards that are similar to each other.

You can organize your boards in the following ways:

  • Boards that are in the same category
  • Sets of boards that you pin to often
  • Boards you promote to when you have new content

Insights are the complete analytics for your Pinterest account which provides you with information on your overall Pinterest profile performance such as follower growth, pins and repins.

This has been a game changer for me to see my growth over the past year.

To give an idea of how much this has helped – earlier in the year of 2018, I only had around 200 Pinterest followers and I just couldn’t seem to push past that number no matter what I tried.

Now I have 1,300 and on average I gain 150 followers a week since starting on Tailwind a few months ago.

Being able to see these numbers (remember, I’m a visual person) helps to confirm that the path that I’m on is the right one. If I see a large dip in my followers, I know something is up and I need to work to resolve the issue.

How much does it cost?

Tailwind has a free trial with no time limit, you can schedule up to 100 pins on Pinterest (30 posts on Instagram) before deciding to upgrade to a paid plus plan.

Then you have two choices:

#1 Pay monthly – $15

This is a good option if the free trial didn’t give you enough to decide if Tailwind is right for you. But it still has its limitations.

let me explain:

Tailwinds monthly plan is unlimited in almost every way except you are limited to scheduling 400 posts per month.

That works out to be around 13 per day. Most successful Pinterest users schedule at least 30 posts per day.

#2 Pay an annual fee – $9.99/mo

Tailwinds annual plan has no limitations! You can schedule 100 posts per day if you like.

Tailwinds annual plan is the best value working out at $9.99/month

My opinion:

  • Very nice visual dashboard
  • Helpful getting started guides and tutorials
  • Multiple ways to schedule content through the Chrome extension
  • The visual scheduler is amazing
  • Board lists
  • Detailed analytics
  • SmartLoop

It’s slightly annoying that you don’t have complete access to all of the features, such as Tribes, Referral Traffic, Trending Pins, etc. In order to get complete access, you have to pay additional money a month.

At the same time, this is great for keeping costs reasonable for those who don’t want to use those features. I guess it depends on what you want for your business – low costs or inclusive packages.
